XPeng Advances Robotaxi Commercialization Strategy

XPeng continues to scale its autonomous vehicle efforts, following the May 18, 2026, rollout of its first mass-produced Robotaxi in Guangzhou. The vehicle, built on the GX platform, is engineered to SAE Level 4 standards and represents the company's first pre-assembled model developed with in-house technology.

The company maintains plans to initiate pilot Robotaxi operations in the second half of 2026 to validate its business model and technical viability. This follows the receipt of a road testing permit for intelligent connected vehicles in Guangzhou in January 2026, which initiated routine SAE Level 4 public-road testing.

Beyond its fleet operations, XPeng is integrating its autonomous driving expertise into a broader physical AI strategy. Chief Executive Officer He Xiaopeng has assumed direct control of the robotics division to accelerate the mass production of the IRON humanoid robot, with a target for production by the end of 2026.
